Long Point First Nation is seeking applicants for the position of Payroll Clerk within the Finance Department.

📍 Location: Long Point First Nation
🕒 Schedule: 35 hours per week
📅 Deadline: April 30, 2026
💰 Salary: $43,188.60 – $55,273.40


Position Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Payroll Clerk is responsible for processing employee payroll and social assistance accurately and on time, while ensuring compliance with Federal and Provincial protocols. This role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll transactions using Sage 300 and ADP systems
  • Process monthly social assistance transactions
  • Review and verify timesheets, attendance, and leave records
  • Calculate earnings, deductions, benefits, and other payroll adjustments
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and employee files
  • Ensure compliance with labour laws and Finance policies
  • Reconcile payroll and social assistance registers to the general ledger
  • Administer employee benefits, pensions, and insurance
  • Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information
  • Assist with audits and payroll documentation
  • Support onboarding processes related to payroll and benefits
  • Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or relevant experience in accounting/bookkeeping
  • 1–3 years of experience in payroll or accounting
  • Experience with payroll/accounting software
  • Knowledge of Finance policies
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Knowledge of Algonquin culture; language is an asset

Working Conditions

  • May require extended hours during payroll periods
  • Must pass a criminal records check
