The Animal Control Coordinator is responsible for overseeing daily animal control operations, ensuring humane treatment of animals, and enforcing Long Point First Nation’s Animal Control Regulations and Responsibilities.
This role combines field coordination, administrative oversight, and public engagement to promote community safety and responsible pet ownership.
• Coordinate and operate the Animal Control Shelter
• Supervise animal control officers and related staff
• Oversee investigations, impoundment, and shelter intake
• Serve as primary contact for animal-related complaints and public inquiries
• Respond to emergencies involving animals
• Maintain records, reports, and case documentation
• Collaborate with shelters, veterinarians, rescue organizations, and law enforcement
• Assist with budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning
• Support public education initiatives on animal safety
• Participate in hiring, training, and staff evaluations
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Supervisory or coordination experience preferred
• Knowledge of animal behavior, handling techniques, and animal welfare laws
• Valid driver’s license required
• Ability to safely handle animals of varying species and temperaments
• Strong organizational and leadership skills
• Effective written and verbal communication
• Conflict resolution and customer service skills
• Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations
• Physical ability to perform fieldwork including lifting and restraining animals
• Combination of office and field work
• May involve exposure to aggressive animals
• May require evenings, weekends, and on-call availability
