As spring arrives and the land begins to renew itself, Long Point First Nation Chief and Council remind all members to walk gently and respectfully on our territory. This season brings new life—rivers run freely, fish begin to spawn, and moose tend to their calves.
Let us honour this time by following traditional Anicinabek teachings:
Fishing during spawning: Leave fish undisturbed so future generations may thrive.
Hunting in spring: Refrain from hunting as many animals are birthing and raising young.
Harvesting with purpose: Take only what is needed and offer tobacco or prayer in thanks.
Let the 7 Grandfather Teachings—Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility, and Truth—guide your actions this spring as we live in balance with creation.
Meegwetch to all who carry these teachings forward for future generations.
