The Health and Wellness Centre would like to inform community members that there has been a noticeable increase in skin-related conditions among children in Long Point First Nation.

Common concerns being observed include:

• Impetigo
• Eczema
• Rashes
• Scarlet Fever
• Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease

While many of these conditions are treatable, some can be contagious or worsen without proper care. Early recognition and appropriate management are important to prevent spread and complications.

We encourage parents and caregivers to:

• Monitor children for unusual rashes, itching, or skin irritation
• Maintain good hygiene, including regular hand washing and bathing
• Avoid sharing personal items such as towels, clothing, or combs
• Keep children’s skin clean and dry
• Seek medical advice if symptoms persist, worsen, or show signs of infection

If your child develops a skin condition that may be contagious, please take precautions to limit close contact with others until it has been assessed or treated.

The Health and Wellness Team will continue to monitor the situation and keep the community informed.
