The Long Point First Nation Sustainable Development Department (SDD) would like to inform community members about a proposed project by Eldorado Gold in Val-d’Or involving the diversion of approximately 3.5 kilometres of stream near the Eldorado Gold Tailings Facility.
According to the project proponent, the stream diversion may affect fish habitat, water quality, and surrounding environmental conditions during construction and implementation. Eldorado Gold has indicated that the proposed diversion is intended to improve long-term fish habitat quality and fish passage once the project is completed.
Given the potential impacts on aquatic ecosystems, water resources, and traditional land use values, the LPFN Sustainable Development Department is currently reviewing available information and assessing how the project may affect community interests and the environment.
Community members are encouraged to stay informed and share any concerns, observations, or questions regarding the proposed stream diversion. Community input is important and will help ensure that Long Point First Nation perspectives are considered throughout the review process.
For additional information regarding the project, please contact the LPFN Sustainable Development Department through the Band Office or by email at nelsonking@lpfn-aki.ca.
