The Manadjiton Aki (Protecting Mother Earth) Unity Agreement is a collective effort led by the Algonquin Nation to build a shared governance model for reviewing development projects on traditional territory. Rooted in the Seven Grandfather Teachings, the agreement promotes community-driven decisions and ensures fair economic participation with developers in sectors like mining, forestry, tourism, and energy.
The initiative empowers communities to choose how and when to engage, without compromising land rights or sovereignty. The Unity Agreement Team, composed of leaders, advisors, and knowledge carriers, continues to present and refine the process through grassroots workshops, coordination with Chiefs and Councils, and dedicated community engagement.
