Long Point First Nation Chief and Council are informing the community that early this morning, a serious violent incident occurred on Mahigan Mikana. This marks the second violent incident in less than two weeks. Council recognizes the growing concern and emotional strain this places on our members. We ask that the victim and his loved ones be kept in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) are currently securing the scene, and investigators from Rouyn-Noranda are in the community conducting an active investigation. Emergency services responded, and the victim was transported to hospital by ambulance. Council is maintaining direct communication with law enforcement and advocating for increased police presence and resources to ensure community safety. Additional space has been made available within the community to support investigators during the ongoing investigation process. We strongly urge anyone who witnessed the incident, heard unusual activity, or has relevant information to cooperate with police. Even information that may seem minor can be critical to an investigation. Individuals may contact the Sûreté du Québec directly or provide anonymous information through the SQ Criminal Information Centre at: 1-800-659-4264 Repeated acts of violence within our community are unacceptable. Council will not normalize these incidents nor dismiss them as isolated events. We remain committed to taking every available step — locally, regionally, and provincially — to protect our members and restore safety and stability. Council also recognizes the emotional and psychological impact these events may have. Community members experiencing stress, fear, or trauma are encouraged to contact the Health and Wellness Centre at: 819-722-2440 Support services are available. Seeking help is a responsible and courageous step. We ask community members to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and continue supporting one another.
